Waxing, after care, sales and service

I cannot predict or guarantee who may react, nor in what way you may react to getting a wax but most clients experience some redness, minor skin irritations such as goose flesh for a day or two. These symptoms should subside over the next 24-48hours, keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction ie. sex, during the next 24-48hours also.

Some hair may break at the root whilst getting a wax if the hair is thin or weak so these will be the first hairs to come out.

  • A slight irritation to the skin MAY occur as a result of getting waxed, especially if you are waxing for the first time.
  • Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and wear some form of sunscreen, so 'slip, slop & slap'.
  • Do Not Apply deodorant straight after your wax.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirl pools and other heated sources for at least 48 hrs as these will irritate the skin.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24hrs after a waxing.
  • Don't exfoliate, loafer or scrub for at least 24hrs after a wax.
  • Inbetween waxing, exfoliate or body scrub yourself 2, 3 or 4 times a week to remove dead skin cells so that the hair can get through and not become ingrown. (Except within 24hrs of getting waxed,as noted above) I recommend using a nylon glove as natural fibres harbour bacterior.
  • Avoid tight clothes after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs. I've noticed a few ingrown hairs around guy's waists; this seems to be where their trouser belt sits and as it's too tight and constricting so just be mindful of this one you men out there.
  • Apply a moisturiser that has a Teatree extract in it as it has an antibacterial effect on it.
  • If using an ingrown solution, always read the instructions carefully. Use this lotion until the redness or the ingrown hairs minimise.
  • Just remember that routine waxing does help in the skin getting accustomed to the procedure and may minimise irritation.

Preventing ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs are hairs that have twisted and grown in on themselves, causing inflamation, and can occur with any form of hair removal. To prevent ingrown hairs try starting a few days after your appointment to avoid any irritation to skin that may still be sensitive. Gently scrub the skin 2 to 3 times a week whilst having your shower or bath using a CLEAN loofah or exfoliating mitt. The choice is yours but, again, I sell and recommend a nylon glove as a natural fibre one can harbour bacteria.

Moisturise the area every day as this keeps the skin supple and will help new hairs to grow through normally. As the hair regrows and hits dry or tough skin it will need not a great deal of encouragement to become ingrown, so loofah and moisturise regularly.

Hair has a various growth cycles which is why you may see some hair growing back within several days, it may take 2 to 3 treatments to get the best results, but I've I've discussed this further in the section regarding permanent hair reduction.

ingrown hair products

Ingrown tip

Asprin contains Salicylic Acid which naturally exfoliates the skin, helps the hair to come out and reduces inflamation. Crush the asprin and put it on the ingrown hair.

Products

I’ve tried and tested a number of products out there on the market that have ‘cures’ for various conditions that some people experience with the whole waxing thing.

From the feedback that I’ve received from my clients I’ve settled on a couple of products that I now recommend to others and the general populace of you out there in waxing land. Granted, everyone is different and everyone has different skin types and sensitivities out there so it is hard to target once specific person.

These products will do a great job for what they are designed for and so these are the ones that I’ve settled on to do the job. If any of you out there have other products that work for you, please email in and tell me about them as it is all good information for people that read this site.

The retail prices you will see are naturally in Australian dollars (AUD) and include our GST. For those of you that are International you have a better advantage as you don’t pay GST so you immediately get a 10% discount on all items, PLUS with money exchange rates you gain even further discounts, especially if you are from the EU or the USA.

Happy shopping.
